Student responsibilities

Below is a reminder of your responsibilities. Because you are applying for public funding for your tuition, you have a responsibility to ensure that this money is well-spent.

To complete my Music Diary in advance of every lesson.
To turn up for all lessons, unless unavoidable due to illness. Advance notice should be given to the instrumental teacher for other reasons so that they can try and rearrange.
To ensure that I bring all the equipment such as music books, instrument, accessories, that I need to every lesson.
During lessons, to be attentive and to follow instructions to the best of my ability.
To practise regularly in between lessons, as instructed by my teacher.
To do my best to take an active part in extra-curricular music opportunities such as school band/orchestra or out of school activities such as Torbay and South Devon Music Centre.
I understand that, should I not carry out my responsibilities as listed above and make good progress, funding for future terms may not be granted.

Parent/Carer Responsibilities

Being aware of planned lesson dates/times, noticing date conflicts as they arise and ensuring that the teacher concerned is informed with enough notice to be able to rearrange.
Helping the student named to remember his/her instrument/accessories on the appropriate day for lessons.
Providing an appropriate place for the student to practise, encouraging him/her to practise every day and to complete his/her Music Diary as required.
Showing an interest in the music that the student is working on. This could be through asking about the music, listening to him/her play from time to time, offering positive comments during/after practise sessions.
Encouraging and supporting him/her to take an active part in extra-curricular music opportunities such as school band/orchestra or out of school activities such as Torbay and South Devon Music Centre (financial assistance available).

Privacy Statement

The information collected on this form is held securely by Torbay Council and is used purely for the purposes of administering the instrumental tuition bursary scheme. Data may be shared with the student’s school in order to continue funding and to monitor progress. As students leave the scheme, their information is permanently removed from the system.
